Low Violence is the new electronica project conceived by Richard the Third, a South African DJ and producer active since 1999. The music of Low Violence is a dark take on the classic Mzansi mid-tempo house and kwaito sound, with strong influences of dub-techno. The debut release from Low Violence, 'Forest Of Groove and Shadow' is a document to the sound of South Africa on the dance-floor, with the feeling of the world coming to an end.

The track, 'Drinks On Me' features Durban emcee and artist, Robin Thirdfloor, and is a narcotic but catchy ode to celebration and liquor, released just in time for South Africa's ban on alcohol to be eased up. 'First Must Burn' samples a voice recording from prolific Sci-Fi author Octavia Butler, from her post-apocalyptic odyssey, 'Parable of the Sower' and is the sound of the dance-floor just before armageddon. Lastly the track 'Groove and Shadow' is a local mid-tempo house excursion complete with moody synth stabs, dub-delays and cut up vox that exemplifies the South African kwaito aesthetic.

The EP, 'Groove and Shadow' is a small, potent slice of the electronic sound that will be the playlist to partying while the earth goes up in flames - at once a slamming, exhilarating beat-scape and at the same time, a somber acceptance of partying right up till the world's end (and then re-birth).
